But, first here’s A.J. and her awesome Christmas sweater with a yummy recipe to help kick off the season!
If someone were to ask me when I was a child what the meaning of Christmas meant to me was, I would immediately tell them Santa Claus, or something in relation to the copious amounts of toys I would be receiving. It’s a little comical how much the meaning of Christmas changes in a person throughout their lifetime. Even when I was a teenager I was still more concerned with the amount of gifts I would receive, and not so much about what it really means. It didn’t really start to change until I graduated from High School, I think.
The meaning of Christmas to me is about Jesus Christ. It is a day to reflect and celebrate when he was born and gave us the ultimate salvation later in his death and resurrection. Without his birth we would still be stuck with our sin problem that we had before. It took me many years of growing and mess ups to finally figure this out, and to become a Christian. Christmas became a lot brighter, I felt like before it was all about myself, but truthfully, it’s about something bigger…at least to me it is.
It also is a time for family and being thankful for what we have. I never really gave much thought about always having family together on Christmas. I thought that it was something that every family did on Christmas, I didn’t know any better until I grew outside of my little High School bubble. My family is fortunate to have one another throughout the holidays, and even more fortunate to have gifts for one another during this season. Some families may not have people to share this holiday with, let alone have a roof on their head, clothes on their backs, and food in their stomachs. I have to say…we are very lucky.
I have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. There have been many changes in my life throughout the course of this year. One, of which, is officially becoming an Author. One of my biggest childhood dreams finally came to life this year. The second, was becoming a wife. I can’t be any more grateful for these two things during Christmas, and I can’t wait to celebrate them both with my friends and family throughout the holidays.
Here is a recipe that I make every year for our family Christmas. In our family it is called “Grandma’s Salad Dressing:”
• 8 Pieces Fried Bacon – Crumbled
• 50 Cents Worth of Fresh Mushrooms
• ½ Package of Spinach
• ½ Head of Lettuce
• 3 Boiled Eggs – Chopped
• 2 Teaspoonfuls of Worchester Sauce
• ¼ Cup of Vinegar
• ½ Cup of Olive Oil
• ½ Cup of Sugar
• 1 Teaspoonful of Salt
• 1/3 Cup of Ketchup
• 1 Medium Onion – Grated
• 15 Cents Worth of Bean Sprouts
From my family to yours, Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season!
